How do I use e-mail to send a text message to anyone’s cell phone?
There is no doubt that the text messaging explosion has happened. I always make it a point to examine our family’s cell phone bill to look at minutes used, data used and text messages sent. I was going through one such bill and found that my Stepdaughter Ariel had 10,361 text messages in one month! I quickly did the math and in a 31 day month that would be one text message every 5 minutes in a 24 hour day!!! This particular bill was for a summer month (i.e no school) but still – that’s incredible!
I mean, you cant go anywhere without spotting someone buried in their cell phone text messaging away – I am certainly guilty of being buried in my cell phone, but i prefer e-mail – which brings me to the point of this post. Most cell phone carriers will allow you to send a text message to a cell phone using a specially formatted e-mail address – usually the 10 digit phone number @whatever.com:
(e.g. for AT&T cell customers would be 1234567890@txt.att.net)
This is a (unverified) list of addresses for different cell services.
AT&T: @txt.att.net
Alltel: @message.alltel.com
Nextel: @messaging.nextel.com
Powertel: @ptel.net
Sprint: @messaging.sprintpcs.com
SunCom: @tms.suncom.com
T-Mobile: @tmomail.net
US Cellular: @email.uscc.net
Verizon: @vtext.com
Virgin Mobile: @vmobl.com
I find this useful from time to time – give it a shot – I hope you find it useful as well!
Thanks,
-Justin
